Going by the buzz making rounds, Microsoft and Peter Chernin – former Fox Entertainment Group Chairman and chief executive – have reportedly discussed the future development of a brand-new TV service for Microsoft’s Xbox Live platform.

Though there are not much details about a likely Xbox TV channel, rumor-mills have it that the new platform will be exclusive for the Xbox 360 game console; and will be jointly owned by Microsoft and Chernin.

Going by the information forwarded by the sources ‘in the know’ of the proceedings, the Xbox TV channel will feature both original programming as well as reruns; and the service will require the users to entail an additional $1 or $2 monthly charge, over and above the $50 yearly charges for premium Xbox Live service.

With a Bloomberg report substantiating that the Xbox TV channel will feature both “reruns and original shows,” the TV service will be yet another addition to the already-available on-demand media on the Xbox Marketplace – whereby users can already either rent or download TV and Movie titles via Xbox Live, and have an instant access to Netflix’s on-demand library.

Meanwhile, corroborating the Xbox Live TV channel rumors, gaming site 1UP has revealed that Microsoft approached former Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien for launching a new show on the potential platform, but O'Brien signed a deal with TBS instead.
